Project Description

Rupert and Renfrew Stations in Burnaby, B.C, are "sister" stations that make use of similar structural vocabulary. Steel HSS round columns with steel plate fins support the glue laminated wood beams that cantilever over the platform area. Tie down support or bracing is provided by wood outriggers with steel connectors that assist in defining the exterior architectural language of the station.

The exterior of Rupert Station is marked by a series of steel struts that visually tie down the portion of the platform roof that cantilevers over the exterior wall of the station.

Rupert Station

Renfrew and Rupert Stations in Burnaby, B.C, are "sister" stations that make use of similar structural vocabulary. Steel HSS round columns with steel plate fins support the glue laminated wood beams that cantilever over the platform area. Tie down support or bracing is provided by wood outriggers with steel connectors that assist in defining the exterior architectural language of the station. Where Renfrew Station allows the roof to simply cantilever over the waiting platform, Rupert station connects the roofs using slender steel beams, over the train area.
